Why You Should Consider Porcelain in your Remodel

Manufactured materials are hitting their stride when it comes to home remodeling. In fact, engineered stone, which mimics the look of natural stone, is often selected because of its durability and consistency. While there are many products out there, porcelain is one beautiful, man-made option that can be used just about anywhere.

Common places to incorporate porcelain include flooring, tub decks, and shower benches and walls. However, it can really be used anywhere you want. Unlike natural stone, porcelain is nonporous, so it does not need to be sealed. By the same token, it does not stain very easily – giving you some grace if you fail to immediately wipe up a small spill or splatter.

In addition to being easily maintained, porcelain also offers more consistency when it comes to the coloring of the stone.

“Because natural stone is pulled from the ground, there is no control over its look and coloring,” said Normandy Designer Ashley Noethe.  “It is very ‘luck of the draw’ and very inconsistent.”

“With porcelain, there are plenty of options available, allowing you to easily find a specific color quality or pattern in the stone,” added Ashley.  “There are also many other variations, including the option to select a polished, matte, or textured finish.”

In some cases, Porcelain can also be a cost-effective option compared to natural stone.
