Created by Normandy Designer Stephanie Bryant, CKD, this white and gray kitchen is spot on with today’s trends. The million-dollar question is: What makes this kitchen so appealing to so many people? Stephanie shared that the classically simple color scheme and details in the design are what make this kitchen so universally attractive.
The walls are painted in Benjamin Moore’s Chelsea gray, and add a soothing effect to the whole space. The white cabinets create a striking contrast, which keeps the space looking bright instead of dull. “White cabinets are a huge kitchen trend for 2012; they have a timeless look that will never get old,” says Stephanie, “Combining the crisp, white cabinetry with the soothing gray was a simple combination with a stunning result.” To accent the rest of the kitchen, softer grays were DREXEL78chosen for the countertops and backsplash. “I didn’t want to take away from the simple color scheme, rather, I wanted to contribute to it,” commented Stephanie, ”Incorporating a soft gray was a middle ground to gracefully transition the bright whites and the soothing grays.”
The kitchen follows a transitional style, combining both traditional and modern design elements, which is another reason it’s so popular. It features details such as mouldings and corbels lining the cabinetry range hood on the traditional side, and elements like the light fixture, chunky island countertop and stools that add a clean, modern touch.
Overall, the kitchen exudes a simple and elegant aesthetic, which is exactly what the homeowner ordered. The well thought out design ties together both traditional and modern styles with a trendy color scheme that will be popular for years to come.
