Take Advantage of a Home Addition and Update Your Home’s Exterior

Master bedroom with tray ceiling as part of home additionAdding-on to your home can be the perfect time to update the exterior.  For this home, a personal retreat in the way of a new master suite was the main goal of the renovation; but taking the remodel one step further allowed this colonial style home to get an exterior upgrade to the façade at the same time.

The project, completed by Normandy Designers Ashley Noethe and Troy Pavelka, created a master suite addition over the existing two-car garage. Inside the addition is a spacious bedroom, complete with a large walk-in closet and master bathroom.

The new en-suite is a welcoming and tranquil retreat, with chandelier lighting, a free-standing soaker tub, private water closet and frameless glass enclosure shower. A quartz countertop and porcelain tiles also provide the elegant look of marble, without the required maintenance that comes with natural stone.

It features an angled tray ceiling with a large chandelier, as well as a generous seating area and arched windows that allow for plenty of natural light. A large, walk-in closet was also incorporated.

For the home’s exterior, new enhancements included shingle-shake siding, which helped define a Nantucket-style aesthetic that was preferred by the homeowner.Exterior photo of a master suite addition over the garage Dormer peaks were added to reinforce the new look, and to create a unified roofline. Small corbels at the dormer peaks and a flower box also contribute to the details you would expect to find in a Nantucket style home.

The execution of this addition and exterior facelift was not only held in high regard by the homeowner, it also received a Remodeling Excellence Award from the National Association of the Remodeling Industry.
