2012 Remodeling Excellence Award

These Naperville homeowners were looking for a fresh take on their bathroom, and found Normandy Designer Jennifer Runner, AKBD to be the perfect fit to help them make their desires a reality.

The Challenge:  The homeowners were looking for a bathroom update that would be more functional for their teenage son and daughter who share the space. They also wanted the new bathroom to reflect the traditional style of their home.  A double sink was requested to accommodate a space for both children.  More drawer storage was a must while a solution to an overcrowded linen cabinet was also in order. Bright and light materials would help bring this original, 30- year old bathroom back to life.  The existing floor plan was to remain while the new dual vanity; tub/shower and linen storage were completely updated. The homeowners love the look of crisp, white cabinetry combined with warm neutrals. Low maintenance shower tile and coordinating floor tile was also on the wish list to ensure the new space would remain like new for years to come.  Finally, the creative use of tile inserts would give the bathroom a much needed “pop” of personality.

The Renovation:  The solution to restoring the original space was to introduce classic materials and warm colors.  The outdated cabinetry and countertops were replaced with pristine white painted cabinetry and classic Crema Marfil Marble countertops. The raised panel doors and brushed nickel fixtures offered a traditional yet warm atmosphere.  The addition of a second sink created dual vanities that were separated by custom mirrors to create his and her function. The addition of wall cabinet and drawer storage created a more organized place for toiletries.   Cabinetry details such as crown moulding and arched toe kicks add to the traditional look the homeowners were after.  The “silk” finish of the mosaic tile rug inlay, offered a playful and creative focal point. The tub/shower space was completely re-designed and offered a deeper, alcove style soaking tub, two shampoo niches and zero maintenance, classic subway tile.  The large single hinged door was removed from the linen closet and a tall, white painted cabinet with adjustable shelving helped to create a more useful space for bathroom storage.  A decorative shower curtain and traditional lighting above each sink completed the charming and updated appearance these homeowners were looking for.

The Final Result:  The homeowners are thrilled, and industry experts were “wowed” by this bathroom transformation.  It recently won a NARI Greater Chicagoland Remodeling Excellence Award for its creative design and skilled execution.  You can schedule a time to talk with Jennifer about your upcoming home renovation and master bathroom remodeling needs, or find inspiration in the bathroom remodeling photo gallery.
