Bartlett Master Suite Makeover

Designer: Jennifer Runner, AKBD  |  Bio
Objective: Transform a "ho-hum" master bedroom/bath space into a cozy retreat that emanates serendipitous beauty and tranquility.

The master bedroom and attached bathroom found in this Bartlett home did not lend itself to the homeowners' vision of a true master suite. A more-or-less functional but unimpressive design and layout of the bedroom, bathroom and closet space provided the necessities but precluded the potential to experience the ambiance of a welcoming, private retreat. Looking to transform this space into one that more closely mirrored their vision, the homeowners reached out to Normandy Remodeling to explore their options.

The matchup between Normandy Designer Jennifer Runner, AKBD and the homeowners proved to be a harmonious combination right from the start. Jennifer worked closely with her clients in the early stages of the project to identify the challenges in the existing space so the new design would address and eliminate those issues. They listed the inadequacies found in the current layout: a small shower, a bathtub that was too tiny to use and leaked into the dining room below, a lack of natural lighting, and insufficient storage space in the vanity area. They also noted that the placement of the master closet door at the entrance of the bedroom detracted from the sense that one was entering a "master suite" from the adjoining hallway.

Once the space inadequacies and homeowners' requisites were identified, Jennifer's creative talent and professional know-how took over to begin the redesign and transformation of the existing master bedroom/bath area. The walk in closet was replaced with his and her reach in closets that provide more function and storage space. The closets flank the sides of a new built in niche to house a TV and furniture piece and provide a new focal point for the room. By eliminating the walk in closet, that space was incorporated into the existing bathroom to create a beautiful master bath which could now showcase a large soaking tub and opulent shower area. The addition of new windows in the master bath allows natural light to flood the entire room. Countertops and porcelain tiles are made from environmentally friendly recycled materials. The warmth emanating from the new radiant heated floors in the bathroom on a cold winter day provides an additional spa-like element, and the newly installed hardwood floors in the master bedroom complement and complete the look.

From "so-so" to "WOW" describes the homeowners' reaction upon seeing the final transformation of their Bartlett master bedroom suite. Through Jennifer's gifted inspiration and genuine commitment to identifying and capturing her clients' vision, a design metamorphosis occurred that produced a stunning, serene oasis from the original "ho-hum" layout. The homeowners were in fact so thrilled by the results that they were inspired themselves to write a poem in tribute to Jennifer and Normandy's professional staff and crew that made their new suite of rooms possible. We are proud to share their heartfelt tribute with you.
