2012 Remodeling Excellence Award

2012 Remodeling Excellence Award

A porch is a classic and practical choice for may homes.  Beyond the aesthetic contribution to the curb appeal of the house, many porches function as an extended living area.  With the right modifications, they can be enjoyed for the vast majority of the year.

These clients wanted to maximize their outdoor living space, and so they began working with Normandy Designer Leslie Lee to develop a plan that would make the new space livable even into the cooler months.  A covered entertainment area was created as a warm and cozy extension of their home to be utilized throughout Spring, Summer and Fall seasons.   The porch had heaters installed in the ceiling, giving it a usable life of up to 9 months of the year.

Ceiling fans and sun shades make this an inviting retreat in the warm summer months, and create a living area that is a true extension of the interior of the house.  Comfortable seating, lamps, and other interior-look items are durable enough to survive the elements but create a homey environment, even outdoors.

A vast mix of materials give the space an inviting feel, while adding visual interest.  Dimmable lighting and a vaulted ceiling set the entertaining mood.  The clients were thrilled that the overall feel melded perfectly with the brick, stone, and cedar materials present on existing areas of their home.

This porch addition was thoroughly well designed and executed, so much that it received a Remodeling Excellence Award from NARI Greater Chicagoland.  Contact us to discover other ways that a porch could be the right fit for your home.
